Reborn babies with rooted hair are perhaps the most sought-after. High-quality mohair or alpaca hair, carefully rooted with fine needles following a natural growth direction and angle, delights both collectors and children alike. This process is extremely labor-intensive. The less hair that is rooted, the more realistic the final result becomes. The hair is glued from the inside, yet it remains delicate and requires gentle handling.
A reborn baby with well-painted hair can be just as attractive as one with rooted hair. Fine, layered brushstrokes in different shades create a three-dimensional effect that makes the hair appear almost rooted. Reborns with painted hair are ideal for children, as they avoid the delicate care required for real hair.
There are various types of eyes and materials available on the market. I carefully study the most suitable expression and color for each reborn baby, selecting high-quality acrylic or glass eyes that are as realistic as possible. The eyes are perfectly sealed, although they remain a delicate area. Reborns with closed eyes are an excellent alternative for children. When eyelashes are present, they are applied using the same material and technique as the hair.
The realism of each reborn baby is also determined by the sculptor and the kit used. There are reborn babies with an extraordinary level of realism, featuring numerous folds, fine details, and well-defined hands and feet that appear almost real. Reborn babies are created with many layers of delicate transparencies, resulting in a marbled skin effect with visible veins, capillaries, and even highly detailed nails.
Reborn babies not only look like real babies, but when you hold them, they feel as if they come to life thanks to the carefully distributed weight throughout the entire body. This means you need to support their head, just like with a real baby. They are also very pleasant to cuddle, as their body is made of fabric and filled with soft Merino wool.
